Balneotherapy or Hot Spring Therapy
Article by Nikki Cuenca
There are a lot of massage therapy that are offered by a lot of spas that guarantee to relieve your body from stress as well as physical tension. However, there are few spas that offer Balneotherapy or Hot Spring Therapy to their clients.
Balneotherapy is derived from the Latin word for hot spring which is balneum. This is a practice of immersing your body in hot or cold water which is fortified with minerals that are used for healing not only the body but also the mind and soul. Naturally, water from hot springs already contain a lot of essential minerals such as Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium, Sodium, Iodine, Bromine and Manganese to name a few. However, most spas infuse the water with herbs and essentials oils to enhance the therapeutic effects.
This is a combination of massage and hydrotherapy and is usually offered by spas especially in Japan. This makes sense since Japan has a lot of hot springs everywhere. Since it is a combination of hydrotherapy and massage, the massage can be a relaxing Swedish massage or any style depending on the masseur. Moreover, the massage is performed in the water.
Basically, this type of massage therapy does not only relax the mind and body but is also have some therapeutic effect on conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia and other skin diseases. In fact, it has already been noted by the medical world that Balneotherapy is a great way to relieve a person who suffers from knee arthritis.Although this particular massage requires high or low temperature in the water, it is not appropriate for everyone.
Unfortunately, people who have high blood pressure, fever, heart failures, anemia and those who are pregnant are not advised to dive in the water considering that it might cause physiological stress to the person. However, for people who do not have these special conditions, then Balneotherapy can do a lot of goodness for them.
